Adopt-a-Landscape Bed

Help keep landscape areas throughout the City looking pristine. This volunteer position is available for individuals or groups.

Time Commitment:

·         Once every 1-2 weeks, spring through fall (warmer weather months).

·         On-time only for person or group who wants to volunteer but cannot commit to entire summer.

Activities/Duties:

The Public Works Department follows best gardening practices and provides training.

  • Remove dead plant material once the snow has melted. Significant amounts of material can be reported to Public Works for pick up by Staff.
  • Divide and move perennials if overgrown.
  • Weed garden bed and deadhead flowers regularly.
  • Spread mulch provided by Staff, if necessary.
  • Be an additional pair of eyes – report any damage, repair needs, potential dangers or large items, such as downed tree limbs.

     Volunteer Locations:

·         Welcome to Lonsdale Sign (West Side): Assist with annual planting and ongoing upkeep of bed

·         City Hall: Weeding rock beds and sign

·         Fire Hall: Weeding rock beds with minimal plants to maintain

·         Jaycee Park: Weeding mulch beds and spreading mulch if necessary

·         All Park Monument Signs: Weeding mulch areas and planting perennials

·         Trenda Memorial Park: Weeding mulch areas and maintaining flower beds

·         Main Street Hanging Baskets: Plant flowers in baskets (1-2 hour task)

·         Veterans Memorial Park: Weeding mulch areas and maintaining flower beds

·         Trcka Park Warming House (South Side): Assist with mulch/rock placement and planting and maintenance.
